VR Lab Experiments Simulation
A full-scale VR biology lab built for An-Najah National University: six real experiments, fully interactive, on Meta Quest.
Summary
An-Najah National University wanted to give biology students real lab experience without needing a physical lab for every session. I built this full-scale VR simulation solo in Unity for Meta Quest 2 & 3. Students stand inside a working biology laboratory and perform six complete university experiments with their own hands: DNA extraction, PCR, bacterial staining, micropropagation and more. Each one follows the real university curriculum, and every tool, step, animation and interaction was built from scratch. Students pick things up, operate equipment, follow procedures and make mistakes in a space where trying again costs nothing.
What's Inside
- DNA Extraction: freeze and grind plant tissue, lyse cells, bind DNA to a filter membrane, wash away impurities and elute a pure sample (5-step walkthrough)
- PCR Methods: assemble the reagents, configure the thermocycler, run denaturation, annealing and extension cycles, then check the results with gel electrophoresis
- Culture Media Preparation: practice 4 inoculation techniques, from plate-to-plate transfer and streak plate isolation to slant inoculation and a TSI agar stab
- Bacterial Staining: the complete Gram staining workflow, from crystal violet through iodine fixation, decolorization and the safranin counterstain
- Micropropagation: prepare MS culture media, autoclave-sterilize the tools, then inoculate plant cuttings inside a sterile laminar flow hood
- Crossing Wheat: emasculate the mother plant, collect pollen from the father, hand-pollinate the stigmas and label the hybrid spike
- Every tool interaction, procedure step, animation and visual effect across all six experiments built from scratch
